Hundreds of hardy souls are set to take a plunge into Hobart's River Derwent for the Dark Mofo nude midwinter swim.
The sunrise dip, at Long Beach at 7.42am on Wednesday, marks the end of the arts and food festival as well as the winter solstice - the shortest day of the year.
Partly cloudy weather and light winds are forecast for Hobart, with the mercury dropping to 5 degrees Celsius.
Last year, the air temperature was 3C and the water temperature roughly 13C.
The nude swim began in 2013 with about 230 participants but has grown considerably in popularity since.
About 2000 people took the plunge in 2019 but the 2021 version was capped at a lower level of around 1500 due to COVID-19 protocols.
Dark Mofo returned to a two-week festival this year, after being called off in 2020 due to the pandemic and running over a condensed period in 2021.
