The bones were discovered during earthworks at Clontarf Reserve playground on October 21, with works immediately halted and the area declared a crime scene.
"The remains were seized by police and will undergo forensic examination to determine if they are human and their origin," a NSW Police spokesperson said.
A Northern Beaches Council spokesperson said shells were also found near the bones which triggered the involvement of the Aboriginal Heritage Office.
On Tuesday, NSW Police confirmed the crime scene had been completed but the investigation into the bones was ongoing. They were unable to provide information on whether the bones were human.
