Real Madrid have missed the chance to go top of La Liga but they did manage to rescue a 2-2 draw with a goal deep into stoppage time against Sevilla.
Real twice trailed against Sevilla, needing an own-goal deep in stoppage time to earn a point at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.
The result leaves Atletico Madrid top of the table and they will take the title for the first time since 2014 if they win their last three matches.
Atleti have 77 points, followed by Real Madrid and Barcelona on 75, with Sevilla fourth on 71.
Real, had they beaten Sevilla, would have the title in their hands, but now they need Atletico to slip up.
"We dropped two points today, we did everything we could to win the game and played quite well in the second half," Real's Luka Modric said.
"But it didn't go in and in the end, even after that moment where we had a penalty at one end and then it was a penalty at the other, we are still alive."
Sevilla started well in a thrilling clash at the Alfredo di Stefano stadium, but Real thought they had gone ahead when Karim Benzema headed past Bono, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Fernando put Sevilla ahead with some nice footwork in the box and a cool finish, after collecting Ivan Rakitic's header after 22 minutes.
Real substitute Marco Asensio levelled on 67 minutes, shortly after entering the fray, coolly finishing after Kroos set him up.
However, Rakitic restored Sevilla's advantage from the penalty spot after a bizarre passage of play.
Benzema thought he had won a penalty for Madrid when Bono brought him down in the area, but VAR showed Eder Militao had handled in his own box in the moments before and Sevilla were awarded the spot kick.
With the clock ticking down Real snatched what could prove the be a vital equaliser when Kroos's shot deflected off Sevilla defender Diego Carlos on the edge of the box and beat the wrong-footed Bono.
Meanwhile, bottom-of-the-table Eibar continue fighting for their survival with a 1-0 win at Getafe thanks to Recio's late penalty.
The Basque side are two points from safety with three games to go, with Real Valladolid, 17th, losing 3-0 at Valencia.
Celta Vigo earned a surprise 4-2 win at Europa League finalists Villarreal, who had two of their substitutes red carded while they were still on the bench for dissent when the visitors were awarded a penalty.
Celta ended the game with 10 men after Facundo Ferreyra was dismissed in the 88th for two bookings.
