Victorian Liberal Party President Robert Clark has announced he will resign in August.
In a letter to party members on Friday, Mr Clark - who has served as state president since December 2018, and was formerly the state's attorney-general - said he would not seek re-election.
He pointed to various reforms as marks of success during his time, including the restoration of "open and democratic preselections" and strengthening respect for the party's constitution.
"We had many talented candidates at last month's Federal election, and now for the upcoming State election, and we have dramatically boosted the Party's focus on and support for campaigns in long-held Labor ... seats," Mr Clark wrote.
To build on what he called a "sound foundation" for the party to "succeed in future", the Liberals need a new state president who could bring a different set of skills and experience to the role, he said.
Former Liberal senator Greg Mirabella is expected to nominate to succeed Mr Clark, whose decision to resign comes months before November's state election.
