TWO businesses and a homeowner have been left counting the cost after a number of fires ignited on Thursday.
The first call came just after 4am, with a large blaze igniting in rubbish at Benedict Recycling, off Challenger Drive in Belrose.
Crews were called in from across the northern beaches as the large blaze took hold. NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters worked together to extinguish the flames.
Bulk water tankers and heavy machinery was brought to the site to break up the densely packed rubbish so crews could douse the flames.
At 2.30pm, RFS Inspector Ian Stockwell said crews from Belrose, Davidson, Ingleside, Beacon Hill and Headquarters brigades remain on scene ensuring the fire was out.
Charcoal chicken blaze
An oil fire ignited just after 1pm amid the busy lunchtime rush at a charcoal chicken shop on Sydney Road in Seaforth.
The blaze was quickly extinguished by the shop's occupants, with firefighters called to the scene.
No injuries have been reported at this stage.
Backyard blaze damages home
A home on Addison Road in Manly has been left with smoke damage after a fire ignited at 11.50am.
A lounge sitting outside the home caught on fire, and was extinguished by nearby tradies and firefighters from Dee Why, Forestville and Manly brigades who were called to the scene.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said crews used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots to ensure the blaze had not spread.
Chemical spill closes road
Motorists were diverted in Manly on Thursday morning after a chemical spill occurred at the intersection of Pittwater and Balgowlah roads.
Buckets of pool chlorine spilled onto roadway, with specialist hazmat firefighters called to the scene at 9.37am.
