ELECTION posters for Dr Sophie Scamps have been splattered in red paint overnight, while Liberal posters sitting alongside remained untouched.
Around 100 posters placed along Wakehurst Parkway and Pittwater Road, north of Newport, were damaged with the paint overnight on Thursday, and independent Dr Scamps has blamed the attack on her "opponent".
"Less than 24 hours before election day, we have once again seen the lows my opponent here in Mackellar will stoop to," she said.
"When you don't have a track record to stand on, or a positive plan or vision for the future, this is the type of dirty tactic you need to resort to. This vandalism is targeted and systematic, and it is pretty obvious who is behind it."
Incumbent Liberal MP for Mackellar Jason Falinski strongly denied his campaign had any involvement in the vandalism.
"This allegation is defamatory and they better have some proof, this is the definition of gutter politics," he said.
Dr Scamps has previously blamed the Liberals for printing fake election posters featuring her image and colours alongside a logo for The Greens. Mr Falinski strenuously denied involvement in this.
Since campaigning in Mackellar began, there has been violence, assaults, graffiti and vandalism of the election posters from a number of candidates.
A man was charged with assault following an incident at a Politics in the Pub event at Forestville RSL in April. The Liberals event was attended by Mr Falinski and Liberal candidate for Warringah Katherine Deves.
On Wednesday, a male independent volunteer allegedly pushed a woman as he erected Dr Scamps corflutes outside Mr Falinski's office. The matter is now being investigated by police.
Mr Falinski and Dr Scamps have previously accused each other's volunteers of graffiting and vandalising election posters, and in some cases removing them entirely.
Mr Falinski called for calm as the final hours of the campaign take place.
"Just keep it civil. We're here to do a job which is tell our story, what we're going to do, not only for the northern beaches but for Australia," he said.
This is the third election Mr Falinski has run in and he said the level of violence, vandalism and graffiti is far worse than during previous campaigns.
