A MALE cyclist in his 40s has been taken to hospital with head injuries, following a car accident in Bayview on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Pittwater Road, at the intersection of King Edward Avenue, just after midday following reports a car had collided with a cyclist.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said two paramedic crews were called to the scene and treated one person.
He confirmed the male patient had head injuries and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.
Three crash scene investigation units remained on scene speaking to witnesses and photographing the crash scene, more than three hours after the accident occurred.
A grey coloured Tesla that was involved in the crash, had a smashed windscreen, and remained in the middle of the intersection.
Clothes, shoes and the damaged bicycle were strewn across the roadway.
Sjaan Steedman was working just metres away from where the crash occurred and heard the impact.
"I heard a loud bang and I looked across and saw the car and the bike," she said. "I saw that someone had been hit so I just ran over to see if I could help.
"The gentleman was getting out of his car and I saw the cyclist in not a great way on the ground. There was blood coming from his mouth, spurting out of his mouth.
"I put him in the recovery position with another lady."
Ms Steedman said the man appeared to be unconscious, before he suddenly made a noise.
"He wasn't responding at first, but then this noise came out of him," she said.

"He did ask where his watch was, I found it down the street. He was talking and he said 'thank you, thank you, thank you'."
Ms Steedman said there were two people in the Tesla, a male driver and a female passenger who was in the front seat, she estimates they were both aged in their late 70s or early 80s. They were uninjured.
