It was disturbing to read that Gladys Berejiklian may have stood for your area in the coming federal election ('Steggall claims ministers have lost touch, Dec 8-14). Irrespective of the ICAC outcome, the opportunity for her to diminish the northern beaches that I spent time growing up in, is concerning. You have several very promising options! Every day, overweight vehicle drivers illegally use Carew Street, Dee Why, ignoring the 3-metre limit sign and endangering other motorists' safety. May I suggest that a camera be permanently positioned in Carew Street to stop heavy vehicles? Also, a traffic safety survey on vehicles using Delmar Parade is long overdue as speeding is a major problem, as well as vehicles being driven entirely over the wrong side of double lines. The use of a Mobile Speed Camera would greatly assist to deter the idiots travelling up Delmar at 80-90 km per hour. Anthony Winslow, Dee Why

Greg Mullins refers to the lack of action by political parties on the urgent issue of climate change ('Standing to face firestorm again', Dec 8-14). He surprisingly states "It is a political problem ... it's almost a race to the bottom, to who can do the least". This is grossly unfair to the Labor party. In 2010, a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme was introduced by Kevin Rudd and rejected twice. In 2011, Julia Gillard's government introduced another market based price for carbon and it was passed into law. Tony Abbott labelled the scheme a 'carbon tax' and the Gillard government was voted out. At the last election, Bill Shorten set a target of 45 per cent reduction of emissions by 2030. Anthony Albanese has set a target of 43pc by 2030. Ann Dickson, Avalon

Narrabeen Lake Sailing Club ('Narrabeen fire', Dec 1) is determined to rise like a phoenix and have established a fundraising page at https://gofund.me/56e7b258. The club has a history of over 110 years and everyone is devastated. Libby Paulsen, Narrabeen

We wholeheartedly agree with Melita Carmel (Letters Dec 8-14), about the closure of the Dee Why Strand to two way traffic.The only people to benefit from this closure are the cafe and restaurant owners who have extra footpath space and the few cyclists who now enjoy motorway space along the Strand. Motorists and the residents of Dee Why Parade and Avon Road who are now having to cope with increased traffic in that area suffer interminably with the roundabout in Dee Why Parade and Avon Road in complete chaos. The traffic is also quite often backed up Griffin Road heading north causing long delays. It is an experiment that is clearly not working and the Strand should be restored to a two way traffic situation. Brian and Sally Twemlow, North Curl Curl
