Bower Street in Manly has reached a near mythical status that elicits gasps - of awe with a tinge of envy - when people hear you live there. Combine that with an ocean-facing apartment in a boutique art deco block of six and you can be assured that those looking to secure an address in this exclusive pocket will be battling to place the highest bid.
That's likely the case for retired nurse Nancy Christie, who has put her elegant two-bedroom, two bathroom apartment at 2/60 Bower Street on the market.
Recent auction results from apartments on Bower Street have resulted in jaw-dropping prices from those keen for a permanent seaside apartment or buyers who want a holiday bolthole to escape to.
"I love swimming and snorkelling at the Fairy Bower pool," says Nancy. "And it's such a short stroll to Manly and the shops, I don't need to use a car."
With views over Cabbage Tree Bay and to a 180-degree vista of the ocean beyond, the north-east facing windows make you feel like you're part of the landscape. "Even if you are inside, you feel like you're enjoying the outdoors," she says.
"Because of the aspect, in summer the sun goes over the top so it's still very comfortable in the apartment. And it's so bright and light. Some days, it feels like you're in Greece.
"The water can be so clear that you can see the scuba divers at the bottom of the ocean. It's wonderful to watch the day pass with swimmers and paddleboarders right outside your window."
The glass bi-fold doors to the balcony facilitate seamless indoor/outdoor living.
"This really expands the living space and I've had plenty of family over when I've been entertaining," says Nancy, who has six adult children. "I've lived in this neighbourhood for a long time and it's wonderful."
