NORTHERN beaches businesses have already had a $7.8 million boost from Dine & Discover vouchers, and with easing COVID restrictions they're hoping for a little more.
Since Dine & Discover was launched in February, 312,926 vouchers have been redeemed across the northern beaches. NSW Government data shows that while the vouchers are worth $25 each the average spend is $40.34.
Now, the state government has announced that every eligible NSW resident will receive two extra vouchers, one for dine and one for discover, in December.
Bush to Bowl is among the 631 northern beaches businesses who've registered for Dine & Discover, and owner Clarence Bruinsma is hoping locals will get out and use their vouchers now that restrictions have eased.
"It can make a complete difference in a time when we're trying to get going again," he said.
Mr Bruinsma established his business in September 2020 and hopes that being included on the Dine & Discover list will help it grow.
The native plant nursery in Balgowlah Heights specialises in Aboriginal culture, food and bush tucker, and offers workshops for individuals and groups.
"Every second or third plant is useable in some way, whether it's food or a tool or it gives you an indication of what's happening somewhere else," Mr Bruinsma said.
Armchair Collective manager Daphne Guillot said Dine & Discover has been a benefit for her Mona Vale cafe.
"It's good because we have the regulars who use them, and we also get new customers who use it as an opportunity to try out a new place," she said. "It's always nice to see new faces."
The Beach Shed owner Marcus Svinos is undecided on whether Dine & Discover has brought in new customers, but he said regulars are spending more when using the vouchers.
"The main thing is I've noticed that they're spending more than what the vouchers are worth," he said. "I think people are desperate to get out again."
- NSW residents aged 18 years and over are eligible for the vouchers and they are valid until June 30, 2022.
