BUSINESSES are taking their trade to the streets thanks to easing council restrictions.
Hairdressers, eateries and breweries have made submissions to temporarily expand their business onto nearby parks and footpaths so they can comply with COVID capacity rules.
Stuart Douglass Hair Design owner Kathryn Vidulic was granted permission to use the footpath outside her Seaforth salon as a waiting room.
"I got some nice deck chairs and some bottled water and they're outside the front doors," she said. "Some people have sat out there with their colours on, other people have sat in their car. It give us the flexibility."
Ms Vidulic said the exemption will help her bottom line and clients who've been waiting months to get back into the salon.
"My salon isn't a large salon, and with the rules of COVID if someone comes late, if someone comes with more work, I wanted to make sure I had the area I could place them," she said.
Cassidy's of Harbord was also granted an exemption, with the salon's hairdressers working from the footpath as soon as restrictions were eased on October 11.
Salon owner Nicky Cassidy recently told the Northern Beaches Review, that working from the footpath would help her staff get back to work, and allow more clients to have their hair done.
"It means I can run to full capacity, to have all my staff working and keep all my clients happy.
Ms Vidulic said the lockdown had been challenging and praised council for its quick turnaround on approving her exemption.
"I rang on Friday at 10am and by 2.30pm I had the approval," she said.
Council has granted 32 Back to Business exemptions so far and applications are still open.
