A late goal from Filip Kostic has shocked Bayern Munich as Eintract Frankfurt secured a dramatic 2-1 victory and first triumph away to the German champions in 21 years.
Serbian winger Kostic, who briefly went on strike as he tried to force a transfer earlier this season, drilled into the bottom corner with seven minutes remaining to end Bayern's run of nine consecutive victories in all competitions. Sunday's defeat is Bayern's first under new coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Bayern are still top of the Bundesliga but were joined on 16 points by Bayer Leverkusen, who they visit after the international break, who won 4-0 at Arminia Bielefeld.
Nagelsmann said the result was "avoidable," adding, "We had an awful lot in our own hand and you can take a lot of lessons from it. Deserved or not hardly matters, in the end we've lost."
Frankfurt's first league win of the season did not look likely as they fell behind to Leon Goretkza's strike in the first half. But an immediate equalizer by Martin Hinteregger set the tone for the comeback, as did a series of superb saves from goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
Bayern had not lost at home in the Bundesliga for 30 games dating to November 2019 but spurned several chances before Kostic, who found the bottom corner beyond Manuel Neuer from a tight angle.
Trapp made one last superb save, from Joshua Kimmich, and Frankfurt had a first Munich victory since their 2000 success in the Olympic Stadium.
"We're unbelievably happy with this victory," said Frankfurt's Oliver Glasner, who added football was "sometimes crazy".
Leverkusen leapt to second, behind Bayern on goal difference but a point ahead of Borussia Dortmund, thanks to goals from Moussa Diaby, Patrik Schick (2) and Kerem Demirbay.
In Sunday's opening game Taiwo Awoniyi scored twice in the space of four minutes in the second half to give Union Berlin a come-from-behind 2-1 win away to his former club Mainz.
