When Kara Watson and her husband Aidan bought this property at 61 Harbord Road, Freshwater, six years ago it was a two-bedroom 1950s double-brick home.
The couple then undertook an extensive renovation to accommodate their growing family.
"We wanted more space," says Kara, who now has two kids, aged three and five. "And, being by the beach, we wanted a coastal Hamptons look."
Their renovation resulted in a four-bedroom, three-bathroom family home, rumpus room and indoor living areas that flow to the outdoors.
"My favourite part of the house is the open plan living area downstairs," she said.
"You can access the kitchen, dining and lounge very easily and open up the doors at both ends of the house. The front opens on to the grassed area and the back opens via bifold doors to the pool and back decking. In summer, we spend a lot of time out the back while the kids are in the pool.
"In winter, we have a firepit there so it's great to be there in the late afternoon or evenings having a drink by the fire. Or we could be having dinner with friends in the dining area watching the kids as they run around on the grass."
Kara, who works in procurement in the banking industry, first visited Freshwater about 15 years ago. "That was the first time I came here and I fell in love with it," she says. Aidan is also an avid surfer so they love the proximity to the beach, which is a 15-minute walk from the home.
"The village is a seven-minute walk and the beach is awesome. It's not like Manly, which is more populated. The area has good schools, day care and really nice community feel. There are a lot of younger families similar to us."
The family, along with their British bulldog, are not moving far. "We wouldn't move out of Freshie. We love it here."
