PROPERTY OF THE WEEK

Stylish house of the week in Dee Why

WHILE many people in the world are clamouring to get into the relative safety of Australia during the pandemic, Cameron Swan is bucking the trend. Thanks to the offer of a plum role in the media industry, he's moving his wife Rhiannon and three children - aged four to nine - to London.

That means the couple's picture perfect Dee Why home - 17 Tango Avenue - is up for sale. The contemporary coastal home is an Instagram-worthy setting and features high vaulted ceilings, saltwater pool, outdoor shower, and four spacious bedrooms.

However, when the couple first bought it, the house wasn't so pretty.

"It was probably a small, original house from the 1960s with a 1980s extension on the back," says Cameron. "We brought the house forward to maximise the north aspect and excavated so that we could have a double garage. There were three bedrooms but we've added one and created all new bathrooms. Basically, we gutted it. I think we kept three walls."

The result of the 14-month renovation is a modern-day beach house with a nostalgic nod to the 1950s. It's no surprise they have succeeded at this aesthetic as Rhiannon is the marketing manager of The Boathouse Group, which has venues in the northern beaches exuding a similar vibe.

Cameron says: "Our vision was that, from the front, we wanted something that looks like it had always been there so that it looks authentic. But we wanted it to be free flowing, open and modern at the back. It's unrecognisable from the original house."

With district views, the property is also conveniently located to amenities. Cameron says: "It's 50 metres to St Luke's Grammar, a seven-minute walk to the B Line bus, an easy walk to Curly netball courts and only two minutes to Warringah Mall."
