A MONA Vale man has been charged and will face court following a vicious stabbing attack that left a man in hospital.

About 4pm on Sunday, a 25-year-old man and a 39-year-old man were walking along Park Avenue at Neutral Bay when they were allegedly confronted by two unknown men.

"One of the men allegedly assaulted the 25-year-old man by punching him several times to the face and head, before stabbing him in the head, neck, back and chest," a NSW Police spokesperson said.

"The two unknown men ran from the scene before fleeing in a white Mazda."

Paramedics treated the injured man, before taking him to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He remains in a stable condition.

The 39-year-old man was uninjured.

The victim was punched in the face and head, before being stabbed him in the head, neck, back and chest.

Officers from North Shore Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Following inquiries by North Shore detectives, a 24-year-old man was arrested on Darley Street in Mona Vale, about 11.30am on Monday, before a search warrant was executed at a nearby home.

"During the search, detectives seized a number of items relevant to the investigation, including a white Mazda," the police spokesperson said.

"The 24-year-old Mona Vale man was taken to Manly Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm."

He has been refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court on Tuesday.

Investigations are continuing to identify and locate the second man.
