Pic of the week
WHEN it comes to photography, the early bird catches the worm, or the glowing Dee Why fisherman, and so it was for long-time local @johnenglish888, who photographs the northern beaches a few times a week. John says: "I am a local semi-retired surfer and totally amateur photographer who loves where he lives, the beautiful northern beaches!" He recently settled back where he was born, Dee Why, for a "lifestyle downsize".
A leader with sandy toes
PM Scott Morrison doesn't often visit the northern beaches but it was a thrill for locals to spot him (in smart casual, not his cossies) at Collaroy Beach on the weekend announcing a $9.7 million funding boost to SLSA for training and equipment. "During COVID it's been community groups like this that have got us through to where we are now," he said.
How's the weather
For once, we are not annoyed that the weather forecasters have got it wrong, with a predicted week of wind and rain turning into some of those long sunny days we have been waiting for all summer. BTW, apparently the reason for so many unreliable weather reports is - of course - COVID, as less global air traffic means fewer meteorological measurements.

YOU can almost hear the birdsong. Colin Biggins submitted this contemplative, world-waking-up photo taken by his wife Sarah Hesse, of what they describe as "Summer solstice lockdown sunrise". It's of North Harbour reserve, towards Q station and North Head. "We live in Balgowlah, so this is a local view for us and one we always love to see," he said.
Not just for the boys
Beaches brand Okanui has made history by launching its first women's collection. Expect their familiar hibiscus print on cossies and rashies but also some super-cute dresses too. You can have a chat to local owners Wendy and Simon Kasprowicz if you pop into their North Manly store, or browse online at okanui.com
