FOUR teenagers have been charged following an alleged violent robbery that left a 14-year-old in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Melwood Oval in Forestville in the early afternoon on New Year's Day following reports of the incident.

"A 14-year-old boy was being treated for cuts and bruises, the result, witnesses said, of him being attacked by a group who stole his shoes and phone," a NSW Police spokesperson said.

"Investigating police were told he'd been kicked, punched and stomped on."

On Monday, however, northern beaches detectives arrested four teens in connection with the incident.

"One 14-year-old and three 15 year olds, all from the northern beaches, have been charged with robbery in company and affray," the spokesperson said.

"The 14-year-old and two of the 15 year olds were refused bail by police pending appearances at court.

"The third 15-year-old was allowed strict police bail with conditions including he not leave home at night and not go near the skate ramps at Forestville."
