VOUCHERS giving people $100 to spend on food and entertainment have been launched in the northern beaches as part of the NSW Government's COVID-19 rescue package.
Every northern beaches resident aged over 18 years can get the Dine and Discover vouchers, and with more than 114,000 eligible in the local government area and it's hoped to be a cash bonanza for some businesses.
Each eligible resident will receive four vouchers - two $25 vouchers to be used for eating in at restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and clubs. The other two $25 vouchers are for entertainment and recreation including cultural institutions, art venues and live music.
Authorities are urging people to spend, spend, spend and said hospitality, tourism and cinemas businesses were particularly badly hit during the festive period lockdowns.

"This is going to provide a vital injection into the economy of people on the Beaches," he said.
"Go and have a meal, but just as important go and watch a movie, get some popcorn, get a choc top. Go and spend because this is what these vouchers are here for, to encourage you to spend into the community."
Businesses must register to be part of the program and so far more than 700 of the 1300 eligible have done so.
Beco@Chelsea owner Rita Costa said even when the COVID lockdowns were lifted many people were still worried, but she hopes the vouchers will encourage people to come out again.
"It was very hard, it was [usually] the busiest time of the year for us and then we had to shut everything," she said. "It was very hard, financially and mentally."
Pittwater MP Rob Stokes said the vouchers are a way for the local community to help support businesses that did it tough.
"Dine and Discover vouchers are a big way in which the local community can come out to celebrate local businesses, to inject more funding into local businesses to help them get over that terrible time," he said.
To get your vouchers download the Service NSW app and click on 'vouchers' to receive your QR code to present to any registered business. Vouchers must be used by June 30, 2021.
