Jetsetters Jon and Nicky McCall still call Australia home but have spent the last couple of decades flitting between China, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei. Now living in Singapore, they have listed 68 Bungan Head Road, Newport, which they originally bought and leased to tenants 17 years ago, before transforming it into a luxury family home. "Everything is new from the letterbox to the rear fence," says Jon. "We stripped it back to a concrete shell and started again." The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home has space for four cars and stunning views of Bungan Beach. The tri-level home has been a passion project for the couple. "My wife and I are seriously anally retentive so every single thing in the house was carefully considered. The colour scheme also mirrors the colour of the beach so when you're looking at it, the beach flows right into the house."

It also has a little nod to history as the beautiful back fence was constructed by stonemasons with stone from the nearby 100-year-old Bungan Head Castle.

Alex Berry was 14 when her family first moved into the home and she now lives there with her husband and baby. "It's very relaxed and private," she says. "You hear the sound of birds instead of the constant flow of cars. There's so much to do outdoors for the kids, it's great for entertaining by the pool or you can have a quiet drink down by the cliff. There is a 180-degree view of bushland."

Along with his wife Sarah, who is a director of marketing, it's been home to his three kids, aged 11 to 15. The master retreat has a vaulted ceiling and makes up the entire top floor. "It's about 40 square metres in itself and it's a really relaxing place to hang out. I often do yoga there."

When Luisa and Sam Panetta moved into 18 Cutler Road, Clontarf in 2003, they knew they had some work to do. Luisa says: "It was a jungle. We did a massive amount of work, excavated the backyard, put in a swimming pool, made a three-car garage and added bedrooms."
